Howard Dean at Stout - Pt. 2

Howard Dean stopped at UW-Stout last week to rally support for Barack Obama.  StoutMedia had representatives there covering the event.  Governor Dean drove home a couple of points to those in attendance. Howard Dean wants voters to vote early so that they are not deterred to vote on election day due to weather implications.  This has to be a major consideration for both parties in the northern part of the country.  It is hard on many of us during the winter to get out and vote, especially the elderly.

He believes that this election is similar to Nixon vs. JFK, as well as it being an election that is about a generational change. Some have even called it the most important election since the days of the great depression.  Governor Dean made reference to this being our generations ‘chance to rise up’ and take on our problems as a nation like his generation did in the 60’s and 70’s.

Howard Dean continued on for about an hour pointing out key differences between John McCain and Barack Obama.  Some key points covered were: the economy, Operation Iraqi Freedom, health care and even student loans.  He said money that is being spent in Iraq should rather be spent “in towns like Menomonie”.

A funny side note to the rally is Governor Dean had a heck of a time trying to pronounce Menomonie.  Maybe it’s a Wisconsin thing?

Patrick, a UW-Stout student was in the 2nd row for the rally and shot this video.
